Being productive! Yeah! :)

Major points discussed:

- discussed very awesome meeting with Ms. Riley and Ms. O'Bryan and Professor Nelson

- MAJOR CHANGES: reorganized entire front page to make more user-friendly (see changes: http://144.92.111.242/wiscipedia/Main_Page)

- talked and browsed wikis from other campuses

- talked about information that needs to be changed on the internal wiki program:
1) perhaps include a "back button" on the pages so that people can go to a previous page?
2) the search should take us directly to a specified page i.e. if I type in "Student organizations" I get taken directly to the student organization page however, if I type "Student Organizations" I get "this page can't be found" and then below "do you mean Student organizations"?
3) All of the council needs to be made into admins so that we can delete pages.
4) We need to build in a lost password function

Timeframe for production? - we have about 10 ppl in our council...hopefully moderation from this group; we would like to launch by spring semester (student org fair)
- discussed beta testing - probably emailing biology mailing list
- need sustainability

Authentication?
- net ID... hopefully
- should prob authenticate during soar and not before

Activity levels
- everyone can read; only ppl come for soar and beyond can write
- must have netid

MediaWiki
- okay program?
- discussed technical problems; our group is not tech/networking heavy

Admin
- students will be replaced b/c wiscipedia is student org
- we already have a group of students who are juniors so this shouldn't be too hard and hundreds of ppl interested on mailing list
- inappropriate content will be elim by moderators

Backup and restore?
- virtual hosting thru doit?

Site stats
- will monitor stats to make it better

- having a good search engine - esp important for knowledge management
- maybe add helpdesk?
- talk to library sciences?
- link to other sites for dates and events that happen often
- also put some kind of disclaimer saying you are not responsible for information from this other site
- important to think about what we have taken ownership of
- Talk to Brian Rust about putting button on wisc.edu site and other relevant websites so that we can be linked from a variety of places! :)
- talked about future funding... Kempler Knapp may be good source in future
- also talked about content that parents might want to see on main page
- talked about collabs with writing center/ law school/ biz school (marketing)
- talked about permanently deleting inappropriate content even from history

9/29 meeting with Dr Ron Kraemer, DoIT CIO

Agenda:
1) domain name - want wiscipedia.wisc.edu, talked about not having a very technical council
2) how to authenticate users - want to use netID - once you sign in once is logged in for long time until you log out; want to anonymously contribute with alternate id?; want it to be like blogger... make changes and then have to log in
3) server - we get one :)
4) server software - media wiki? we are flexible
5) storage - there is space
6) other
